Working With Offenders

The Cognitive Centre Foundation offers a range of training and support services and to those working with offenders and other client groups in the UK and elsewhere. We are an independent organisation and not part of a statutory or centrally controlled body.

This independence allows us to be flexible and responsive to our client's needs and also allows the freedom to initiate the development of new and creative approaches to the complex and multifaceted problems faced in providing 'human services' to people. We see our role as the provision of consultancy, training and ongoing support services to organisations providing direct services to people.

The Cognitive Cntre Foundation was formed in 1994 and focussed on developing effective ways of working with offenders. Since then we have become one of the leading training consultancies in the UK. Our expertise is based on:

  • Partnerships with many of the leading UK and international experts in the field of working effectively with people, particularly in working with offenders. These allow us to ensure that the services we provide are always 'state of the art' and underpinned by an up to date knowledge base.
  • Partnerships with organisations, companies and individuals from the UK, Canada, Australia, the USA and Europe which have allowed us to develop and acquire a range of assessment instruments, programmes and approaches which are designed to equip organisations to deliver best practice. A staff group which has 'been there and done it' at practitioner and management levels A staff group which has a proven track record in training and consultancy A commitment to ongoing research and evaluation designed to inform the development of new and innovative approaches to working with offenders and other client groups.

The Centre was formed in 1993 and over the years has accumulated massive experience in working in partnership with statutory, voluntary and private organisations including education, health, criminal justice and the personal social services. Our work has taken us to Australasia, Europe including the Republic of Ireland and in the UK, Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the States of Jersey and Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

In order to help disseminate information and current knowledge we periodically run national and international conferences focusing on the development of effective practice in working with offenders in a range of settings. We believe that our work needs to be underpinned by the most recent research evidence available from throughout the world. With this in mind we have developed close working relationships with internationally renowned academics and researchers. We try to ensure that the materials we introduce into practice are the best we can find or develop.
