Working With Adolescents
For Practitioners working with young people experiencing behaviour problems e.g. social workers, probation officers, Youth Offending Team Officers Mentoring Schemes, Foster Carers, Youth Service, Young People Drop Ins, Parenting Groups
- Adolescents today have more pressures, stress and information to process than previous generations.
- The old set of rules guiding youngsters no longer seems effective in all cases
- New and creative ways of helping young people to develop into healthy and successful adults are needed in times of rapid change when they are experiencing the sexual awakenings of puberty, facing increasing social and educational demands and experimenting with more freedom, autonomy and choice than ever before.
- Adolescents that are dysfunctional or have special needs are difficult to manage when they are in the phase of knowing it all!
- Better understanding of adolescents and their behaviour leads to me helpful interaction and a better chance of young people growing up into health, functional adults.
