The SAM is based on structured professional judgement (SPJ) guidelines designed for use by law enforcement, criminal justice, security, and mental health personnel. The SAM builds on our previous work on SPJ approaches to violence risk assessment, most notably the SARA guide and the RSVP (both listed above). Dr. Reid Meloy, one of the field’s foremost authorities on stalking, has described the SAM as “…an exemplary instrument – and the first of its kind – to risk manage a stalking case and its inherent violence.”
